Some garden googling brought up a name (Dulbešećer) and some photos and also somewhere (!) the name of a possible rose, Rose de Rescht. (I'm unable to find that resource again).
And we have it in the rose garden as well! Not quite as fragrant, but definitely the same fragrance.
Helpmefind considers it a Damask, Damask Perpetual, Portland, or Shrub. It is very fragrant.
Some histories:
- The SCV Rose Society. They consider it a Portland
- Paul Barden, Old Garden Roses and Beyond
More uses:
- Rose Juice, made with a very similar looking rose.
- Rose syrup where the rose does not look like Rose de Rescht, fewer petals but same colors.
Rose de Rescht is available from these sources. I would definitely want to smell before I buy!
- Roses of Today and Yesterday
- David Austin?
- High Country Roses
- Peter Beales - look similar with same number of petals.
- Rogue Valley Roses
