Florist Shops After the 1906 Earthquake and Fire

The American Florist reported on how their members fared in the 1906 earthquake and fire. Photos of shops were included.

John McLaren and his wife made space for the earthquake refugees and helped out others in many ways.

As of this June 1906 report, some of the San Francisco florist shops had reopened.

The report also covered damage in San Jose and Santa Rosa.

In Santa Rosa, Luther Burbank reported "Mother and I felt the jar without damage and not one of my leaves was broken nor the tenderest plant injured." However, his photographic gallery was smashed to splinters. In the June 9 issue he describes an great elm that was affected by the quake.

In San Jose "H. Bourguignon a grower of choice roses, carnations, and cucumbers had three large houses totally demolished."
